What to wear
To fully enjoy a comfortable and safe ride on your bicycle, the clothing you wear can be very important. Your cyclewear will vary depending on your journey - factors such as speed, the terrain and weather are all important.
Safety wear is a must. Helmets can significantly reduce your risk of suffering a severe head injury, but it’s essential to get one that fits - make sure you try it before you buy. Helmets offering varying levels of protection, and are available at different prices and with a range of features. It's important you buy one that meets your needs and will protect you.
At night, it’s essential that you wear bright or reflective clothing or strips - it's more difficult for cars to avoid hitting you if they can't see you!
Clothing is available to suit all weather conditions, from fleeces to keep you warm in winter to cool, waterproof gear that will keep you dry in heavy summer showers.
