Children can meet Santa on fun, Christmas Cycle Ride
Cycling City York is giving families the opportunity to take part in a fun, festive cycle ride to Santa’s Village at Murton Park, where children will receive an early Christmas gift from Santa himself!
The Christmas Cycle Ride will set off from the West End of York Minster at 9am on Saturday 4 December. It will then follow a gentle, mostly traffic-free, four-mile route to Murton Park, which will have been transformed into Santa’s Village.
On arrival, families will tour the village, meet the elves and then take a train ride on the Derwent Valley light railway to meet Santa himself. Children will receive a personal, early Christmas gift from Santa, and adults can relax with a complimentary mince pie and glass of sherry in front of a real fire!
Places on the ride must be booked in advance no later than 26 November by completing the booking form and cycling health questionnaire.
Completed forms and questionnaires can be returned by e-mail to loretta.spyers-ashby@york.gov.uk or posted to Loretta Spyers-Ashby, Cycling activity officer, 9 St Leonard’s Place, York, YO1 7ET. For more information about the route, please call Shaun Wilkinson, road safety training co-ordinator, on 01904 551646.
This guided, group ride will leave Murton Park between 12.30pm and 1pm for the return journey to York, but families can head back sooner if they prefer. It’s free to take part in the ride, and a complimentary hot drink and snack will be provided. However, the usual admission charges to Santa’s Village will apply (£5 per adult and £7 per child). Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. There is no lower age limit, but if children are cycling independently they must be able to keep up with the group. Children under the age of eight years may benefit from being carried on a tag-a-long, trailer or child seat.
