Family fun at free cycling try-out roadshow

Families are invited along to a free cycling try-out roadshow in St. Sampson’s Square next Saturday 13 November, where they’ll be able to have a go on a wide variety of bikes.

There will also be a Dr Bike session for people to take their own bikes along to for help with minor repairs and maintenance advice.

The cycling try-out roadshow is the latest event in Cycling City York’s busy programme of activities aimed at encouraging people of all ages to try cycling. It follows on from the success of the cycling try-out sessions that were organised as part of the Festival of Cycling in September, which proved very popular with members of the public. The roadshow will be run by Cycle Experience, which works with councils and other organisations across the country to help get more people cycling.

Graham Titchener, programme manager for Cycling City York, said: “This is a great opportunity for all the family to come along and have fun trying out a wide range of bikes, as well as a chance to seek help with repairs to your own bike. People will also be able to pick up lots of useful information and advice on choosing the right bike; route planning; cycle maintenance; and how to keep themselves and their bike safe.

“The try-out sessions that we held at the Festival of Cycling this year and the year before were a big hit with people of all ages, and I hope that everyone will make the most of this latest opportunity to come along and try out different types of cycles.”

The vast selection of cycles available for people to try will include bikes for learners, children and adults, as well as folding bikes, tandems, recumbent bikes and electric bikes. Parents will also be able to have a go on bikes with trailers, child seats and even tandems that allow children to be carried on the back.

This free event will take place between 11am and 4pm in St. Sampson’s Square, York, and everyone is welcome to go along and join in the fun.
