York cyclists are encouraged to take part in fun, charity cycle ride
Cyclists in York are being encouraged to hop on their bikes in aid of a good cause.
Cycling City York is helping to raise awareness of the first regional cycle ride to be organised by Diabetes UK, which will take place in York on Sunday 26 September, starting at 11am opposite York College. Participants will raise funds for the charity by asking family, friends and colleagues to sponsor them for taking part.
The 20km ride will follow the popular Solar System route south of York, which forms part of Route 65 of the national cycle network. It is free to enter and suitable for cyclists of all ages. To register to take part, telephone 01325 488606 or go to: www.diabetes.org.uk/yorkcycle
Sarah Wood, regional fundraising administrator for Diabetes UK, said: “This is the first time we’ve organised a sponsored cycle ride in the region and, given York’s status as a Cycling City, we had no trouble choosing a venue.
“I hope that York’s cycling community will come along and take part in what promises to be a fun ride out and, at the same time, help us raise much-needed funds for Diabetes UK.”
Graham Titchener, programme manager for Cycling City York, added: “We’re delighted that Diabetes UK has chosen one of York’s best loved cycle routes for its first sponsored regional cycle ride. I have no doubt that many York cyclists will jump at the chance to get involved and wish all those taking part every success.”
