Cycle parking
Cycle parking facilities are located throughout the city centre and at all major shopping, leisure, education or employment sites, and Park & Ride sites. For details of city centre cycle parking locations, download a copy of York's Cycle Route Map below.
Cycle stands are there to provide a convenient place to leave your bike, but please remember to lock your bike securely on every trip. For more information on keeping your bike safe, see Security
Work recently began on a brand new Hub Station for York, which will offer indoor, secure city centre parking for around 100 cycles.
York Rail Station
Access into and out of York rail station has now been made even easier for the hundreds of commuters that travel to and from York every day. Train operator East Coast has opened two new ramps for cyclists and pedestrians.
A new northern ramp links the station from Leeman Road and the pathway next to the Royal Mail depot leading to the river.
Access to the south is from Lowther Terrace into the long stay car park, saving time for those arriving from the Holgate Road area of the city.
The £500,000 investment has been part funded by the train operator, Cycling City York and City of York Council.
Access to the ramps will be controlled by gating, and will be open from 5.30am to 10.30pm seven days a week.
East Coast is currently seeking the go-ahead for 36 new bike stands to be located near to the north and south ends of the inner concourse at the station.

Community cycle parking
We know that providing good quality cycle parking reduces the likelihood of bikes being stolen or damaged, and local communities and neighbourhoods are no exception. Earlier this year, we joined forces with an organisation called ParkThatBike to launch a new project offering free cycle parking specifically for smaller organisations and local communities. The project offers voluntary sector groups, social enterprises, small businesses, shops, offices, churches, GP surgeries, cafés, pubs, playgrounds and allotments the chance of having up to two FREE cycle parking stands, providing parking for four bikes in total. Recipients are just responsible for the installation of the stands on their own premises. To find out if your organisation or business is eligible for free bicycle stands, download and complete the application form below.
Did you know that you can now air your views via a new website set up to provide councils with feedback on cycle parking in their area? By visiting www.parkthatbike.info you can even report slotted slabs and other forms of parking that no longer meet the needs of cyclists. The site uses Google mapping and lets users mark the location precisely. People can comment on cycle parking on the highway, in public spaces, and at key destinations, such as railway stations, leisure centres, libraries, surgeries and supermarkets. Park That Bike collates all of this information and sends detailed reports to councils across the country twice a year, advising them on where there is most demand for cycle parking and where improvements could be made.
