School
Cycling to school with your children is a fun and affordable way to spend time together, as well as an opportunity for you all to get fresh air and exercise. You’ll also be equipping your children with a useful skill for life.
Cycling to school is beneficial in many ways:
- It's enjoyable
- It gives you and your children exercise
- It helps the environment
- It reduces traffic
As part of the Cycling City York project we want to train and encourage more young people than ever before to cycle to school or college. Our aim is to reduce congestion, improve the health and fitness of children, and give young people a valuable skill for life. Our target is to double the number of children cycling to school from eight per cent to 16 percent by 2011. To do this, we will be funding more training initiatives, employing more cycle trainers and running promotional events for schools, as well as developing school travel plans.
