Bike It
Bike It is a nationwide scheme run by Sustrans, which aims to increase the number of young people/children cycling to school and on other journeys. The project began in York (and three other areas) in 2004/05 and based on end of year bike shed counts, cycling levels have quadrupled (that's 400 per cent of the original level) in the Bike It schools.
In York, the Bike It campaign now involves getting children interested in cycling to school and to help them become healthier and happier and create a more sustainable society. The positive changes cycling can bring about impact on the community in so many ways and its a rewarding activity for everybody involved. York's Bike It officer is Naomi Wells Smith.
