Children
Taking young children for a cycle ride can be great fun, although of course going anywhere with toddlers, whether it's on two wheels or four, usually involves a considerable amount of preparation. If you have all the essentials to hand, you'll be able to take off on your bike at a moment's notice whenever the sun shines; suntan cream, sun hat (for when not on bike), kagoule, extra clothes layer, snacks, drinks, favourite soft toy, all fit into a pannier quite easily. Plan your route before you go and don't forget to find out where the toilets are and where you can buy extra drinks/snacks if needed.
Parent and Carer cycle training
Cycling City York is offering parents and carers the chance to receive cycle training alongside their children at a low cost rate.
The aim of the training is to encourage more families to make the journey to and from school by bike, and the sessions are being offered at several schools across York. Sessions cost £17 for 60 minutes and £22 for 90 minutes. Sessions are tailored to the individual needs of each family group.
Shaun Wilkinson, schools group lead for Cycling City York, said: "We know that one of the things that can deter families from taking their children to and from school by bike is a lack of confidence, so, through these sessions, we aim to equip parents and carers with the skills that they need to cycle safely with their children.
"If we can train parents or carers and their children together as a family group, they'll be more likely to cycle together in the future."
