Over 45s
One of the key targets of the Cycling City York project is to increase the number of cyclists amongst the over-45s, as a significant proportion of people in this age group are lapsed cyclists. If you're aged over 45 and would like to return to cycling, then we can help by offering some friendly advice and confidence-boosting training sessions to get you back in the saddle!
Fit as a Fiddle
The aim of the free 'Fit as a Fiddle' courses, which are run in conjunction with Age Concern, is to get residents over the age of 50 back on their bikes. The courses are made up of three two-hour sessions covering everything from basic bike maintenance to how to ride a bike from scratch in traffic-free environments and on the road. Bikes are available free of charge to those who need them, and cycle helmets and high-visibility tops can also be provided.
We're currently running sessions at three venues across the city and they've proved really popular, so we were keen to identify more dates and venues as soon as possible. The courses are suitable for those who are completely new to cycling and those who perhaps enjoyed it once but have not ridden a bike for some time.
