Special needs cycling

Many people with disabilties might think that they don't have the ability to experience cycling, but with a huge variety of specialist cycles on the market, there really is a bike out there for everyone.

Bikes not BarriersCycling City York partners, Get Cycling, can provide expert advice on what bike would be most suitable for each individual's disability, adapting bikes to people's individual needs and requirements. We can always find a way to make it possible for people to experience cycling with their family and friends.

Bikes not Barriers

Throughout the year, Get Cycling will be running a series of 'Bikes Not Barriers' try-out events aimed at giving people with special needs the opportunity to try a broad range of adapted cycles. They are open to people of all ages who have physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and balance or severe mobility problems, as well as those who are blind or partially sighted. People are welcome to go along and choose from the broad range of specially adapted cycles on offer, which include all kinds of tricycles, pedal-assist electric bicycles, conventional tandems, side-by-side quadricycles, hand-cranked tricycles, wheelchair tandems and lots more, to find something suited to their needs.
